The Campbell clan takes its name from the Gaelic word “Caimbeul,” which is derived from the term “cam beul” meaning “crooked mouth.” The clan’s origins can be traced back to Sir Colin Campbell of Lochow, who lived during the 13th century. During the medieval era, the Campbell clan gained prominence and power through strategic alliances and military prowess. They were initially loyal to the Lords of the Isles, but later pledged allegiance to the Scottish crown. By the 15th century, they had become one of the most influential clans in Scotland.
