The Clan MacAuley, also spelled MacAulay, is a Scottish Highland clan with roots in the region of Argyll. The clan takes its name from the Gaelic “MacAmhalghaidh,” meaning “son of Amhalghaidh” or “son of Olaf.”
The MacAuleys were historically associated with the lands of Ardincaple and Rosneath on the banks of the Clyde. They were known for their fierce and martial nature, often serving as skilled warriors and loyal supporters of their chiefs.
One notable figure from Clan MacAuley is Sir Archibald MacAulay of Ardincaple, who lived during the 17th century. He was a prominent and influential member of the clan, serving as a diplomat and statesman.
