Clan Ranald, also spelled Clan Ronald, is a Scottish clan associated with the MacDonalds of Clanranald. The clan takes its name from Ranald, son of John of Islay, Lord of the Isles. The MacDonalds of Clanranald were one of the branches of the powerful Clan Donald. They held significant lands in the Western Isles and were known for their fierce loyalty to the MacDonald cause. A notable clan member is Allan MacRanald of Clanranald, who played a crucial role in the Jacobite uprisings of the 18th century. He was a staunch supporter of Bonnie Prince Charlie and fought alongside him during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745-1746. Allan MacRanald’s bravery and leadership earned him recognition as a notable figure in Clan Ranald’s history.
