The Clan MacDougall is a Scottish clan associated with the region of Argyll. The clan takes its name from Dougall, son of Somerled, the 12th-century Lord of the Isles. The MacDougalls were once powerful and held extensive lands throughout Argyll. They played a significant role in the medieval conflicts and alliances of Scotland. Notable among the MacDougalls is Alexander of Lorn, who supported Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Scottish Independence. He fought bravely at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314, securing a decisive victory for the Scottish forces. Alexander’s valour and leadership in battle earned him recognition as a notable figure in Clan MacDougall’s history.
